 Sri Lanka Foundation Institute (SLFI), the main educational project of the SLF, was founded in 1974, writh the support of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung of Bonn, as a centre of labour education and training. SLFI is a premier non-formal adult education centre in South Asia with a specific focus on democratization through training and dissemination of knowledge. Its areas of training and education include labour relations, gender equity, community development, grass roots leadership, human rights, good governance, environment and health. These programmes are carried out in collaboration with governmental and non-governmental institutions, private sector establishments, universities, trade unions, community and international organisations via seminars, workshops, discussions, publications, the print and electronic media.
SLFI is also a premier centre of intellectual and cultural exchange in Sri Lanka. Its auditorium, conference rooms and other facilities are frequently sought by community and professional organizations, state institutions and universities iiOr their own training and educationalac tivitics.
SLFI is equipped with a hostel providing accommodation for 60 persons, an airconditioned auditorium to accommodate 400, modern audio-visual equipment, lecture halls committee rooms and two well laid out gardens. A fully equipped kitchen with restaurant facilities add to the SLFI's infra-structure.
